Founded by husband-and-wife team Kristian Tapaninaho and Darina Garland in 2012, Ooni Pizza Ovens revolutionised the outdoor cooking landscape and created a new category when they launched the world’s first portable pizza oven. During the pandemic, Ooni thrived as at-home pizza making surged, driving a 264% increase in turnover and revenue. To support its rapid growth and rising visibility, Ooni partnered with Zencargo to build a scalable, sustainable, and efficient supply chain.
Ooni’s rapid expansion requires a more robust and scalable supply chain solution for shipments from their origin in China to the 90 countries worldwide where Ooni products are available. Additionally, Ooni’s business model relies heavily on precise inventory control and timely deliveries. Given the high-value of their products, storing excess inventory ties up large amounts of working capital, so managing the flow of inbound goods efficiently is essential.
Zencargo’s solution includes end-to-end Purchase Order (PO) management, with all POs housed on a centralised platform, providing granular SKU-level data on inbound shipments from origin to destination. With the ability to see exact product numbers, verified at every stage of the supply chain, the Ooni team can match inbound shipments to demand with detail. This enabled them to slow down or accelerate orders as needed to ensure they can meet demand without overloading warehouse capacity, improving working capital.
Additionally, Zencargo’s data-driven approach provided Ooni with accurate forecasts and real-time updates, ensuring that pre-ordered products were delivered on schedule. The platform’s ability to provide real-time ETAs and track disruptions allowed Ooni to keep their customers informed, enhancing the overall customer experience.
Since working with Zencargo, real-time ETAs and exception tracking ensured timely delivery of pre-ordered products and allowed Ooni to keep customers informed, improving satisfaction.
For 2024, the average destination dwell into the EU was 6 days, with shipments being delivered via both truck and barge
Additionally, improved visibility has helped Ooni reduce detention and demurrage fees, with only 4.76% of shipments incurring such charges.
Zencargo also provided Ooni with visibility on valuable market insights, including updates and rate comparisons, to help shape their strategy. As a result, Ooni achieved a 35% reduction in cost avoidance in 2024 compared to market rates.
